I am thinking of doing it on my own tonight. The drug keeps me sedated till noon. I can't take it anymore. Need to be alert at my job. Just landed a job and want to make a good impression. I am thinking of going down to 40. What do you say? I can do it too because I have 20 mg pills.

My understanding is that tapering this med is challenging and safer with doctors instructions.

The immediate thing you can do on your own is to take Geodon earlier in the evening. Another thing to consider is other meds in your cocktail - Geodon is rarely used alone.

How long have you been on it? The sedation goes away, at least it did for me. I do need to take 2 doses 12 hours apart, the higher dose at night.

I tried going from 80 to 40 once and did NOT do well. It would make more sense to decrease the dose in smaller increments over a longer period of time. But it shouldn't be done at all without a doctor's supervision.

At the higher dosages, a 40 mg decrease is not a problem but at the lower dosages, it makes a significant difference. Would highly recommend decreasing by 20 mg. The capsules actually can be split and the contents divided, put into a juice or applesauce to take. It is hard to gauge though if getting EXACTLY 20 mg but it will be a lesser dose to add to another 40 to get your 60 mg, then drop down to 40 mg over time if 2o mg is not available. Talk to your doctor; they can prescribe 20s in the interim, it is much simpler and much safer.
