Hi
I have been on Abilify for about 5 years... Long time. I have tried coming off it slowly in the past with adverse side effects that kick in once I am on the last small dose or off it completely which tells me it doesn't leave the system until it is not taken anymore. Along with Abilify, I take Invega and Xanax. Here's the problem: Each morning I am waking up with crazy weird thoughts and voices. It is more of an uncomfortable thing than anything else. This goes away mostly after a couple hours of waking up, but I believe the Abilify is causing other problems during the day too, and I just want to do away with it for good and be successful. I cannot take the pain in the morning anymore. Should I just dose down over like a 7 day period then stop completely? I have tried doing it slow and it didn't work. Any advice for why this may be happening or how I can dose off safely would be great. |

I would talk to your doctor. I think slow is always better... If you have withdrawal doing it slowly then my guess would be going off it quicker would make for worse withdrawal.

Withdrawing from antipsychotic are the WORSE and can even cause episodes and/or psychosis in ppl who dont have bipolar ect
I would take it as slow as possible

What was the reason for taking it in the first place? I mean did you have psychosis with your bi polar before the abilify?
Very slow is better. it doesn't matter if there is a little bit in your system or none what needs to happen is your receptors have to re adapt and the more time you give that process the better which would mean a very slow taper if you are having problems. Is it possible the abilify was successfully treating the symptoms you are having now?

Please, discuss this with your doctor. He or she is the best person to advise you on this.
