I dunno it seems hard to argue on the one hand that serotonin in the synapses of neurons (the chemical imbalance theory) is totally false and that is not why antidepressants work or don't work. That the mechanisms for antidepressants are not known. And then on the other hand use the pharmaceutical companies chemical imbalance theory to show why they poop and cause damage to receptors.

It would be nice to see evidence and studies to back up his claims and not just links to anti psychiatry sites.

SSRI Discontinuation or Withdrawal Syndrome | Psych Central

Quote:
About 20 percent of people experience discontinuation symptoms, according to Dr. Michael D. Banov, medical director of Northwest Behavioral Medicine and Research Center in Atlanta, and author of Taking Antidepressants: Your Comprehensive Guide To Starting, Staying On and Safely Quitting. About 15 percent experience mild to moderately bothersome symptoms while fewer than five percent experience more severe symptoms, he said.

Withdrawal From Antidepressants: Symptoms, Causes, Treatments

Quote:
What Causes Antidepressant Withdrawal?
There's no way to predict if you will have withdrawal symptoms after quitting an antidepressant. Scientists are not exactly sure why some people develop antidepressant discontinuation syndrome while others do not.

Antidepressants help restore the balance of naturally occurring, mood-regulating substances in the brain, called neurotransmitters, including serotonin and norepinephrine. Some mental health experts theorize that abruptly quitting an antidepressant simply does not give your brain time to adjust to the rapid changes.
Going Off Antidepressants - Harvard Health Publications

Withdrawal symptoms do not at all mean addiction. The best strategy is to do a slow taper so your brain and receptors can adjust. Not everyone gets withdrawal. I never have for example. I don't think it is understood very well what causes it and why some people get it and some don't. Can't really find any studies on it.

Here are a couple of articles written by Dr. Gary G. Kohls.

There are no links to any studies or journals to back up the claims. Read for yourself and see what you think.

The suicide of Robin Williams: Why we need a grand jury inquest to investigate it | Intrepid Report.com

Are drugs causing the dementia epidemic? | Intrepid Report.com

The claim that psyche meds themselves have caused huge numbers of disabilities and cause mental illness, and the the big increase in diagnosis is due to damage caused by psyche meds I just don't buy. It does not take into account the advent of the DSM. All that has been learned about mental disorders since the sixties. And the huge reduction in stigma and willingness of people to get help whereas before the were hidden away and never diagnosed. Increase of use of psyche meds and increase in diagnosis does not prove correlation between the two. Someone from a North East African country has recently posted that if he talks openly about depression and his other issues he will be beaten up and possible killed in his culture. He is not likely to get help and a diagnosis in his country. First world increase in diagnosis may have everything to do with changes in culture around these issues. The 50's and 60's were a much darker time.
