I haven't been getting much sleep lately, and when I do it's not good sleep because I have horrible vivid nightmares. This started when I went up to 500mg on Depakote. Has anyone else here experienced this? It's bothering me a lot, I no longer like to sleep because of this. I will bring it up with my pdoc when I see her at the end of this month.

No I haven't had any nightmares, but was on 1,000 before I stopped taking. Back on 500 again tonight, so I'll see how it goes. Just felt tired all the time.
Thanks for this!

Hi Blue_Bird

I used to take Depakote and it was a great mood stabilizing med. I did gain a lot of weight on it so I decided to stop it. I did not have any nightmares on it. I am wondering if something else might be causing this. I hope others will come along and share their experience on this med. I hope you feel better and get some much needed sleep very soon. ((hugs))

I took Depakote for ~ three years and had no more nightmares at that time than I have had while not taking it. But that doesn't mean that it isn't possible for you to have an adverse effect that I didn't. Talk to your pdoc.
