Hello,
I'm an M1 and I've been having a terrible time focusing. A friend suggested I speak to my doctor, and I did. He gave me "Fetzima," enough for a 2 week trial. The issue is, when I looked at the cost, it's prohibitively expensive! Like close to $240 or something for 30 pills. I dug a little deeper and discovered "Effexor XR" which some people say did wonders for their ADHD. Note: I am *NOT* depressed. I'm trying to study right now in fact but I read like 1 page and then browse for 15 minutes. I waste a lot of time and I just don't know how else to control it but medications. Can I go from Fetzima to Effexor without issue? I haven't started taking Fetzima yet. I will reject this expensive drug no matter what, even if it works. It is just too much money. Can somebody provide me with some help? Thank you all for your understanding and having read this message. |

Hi adhdmedsu
Fetzima and Effexor are very similar in a pharmacological sense. They are both what are called selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SSNRIs), What that means is that they block the uptake of serotonin and norepinephrine at the gaps (synapses) between neurons in the brain. Both are indicated for management of Major Depressive Disorder (I have been on Effexor for some years - it has helped me with my MDD). To my knowledge, neither are indicated for ADHD. I suggest that you go back to your prescribing doctor and ask him/her why Fetzima was recommended for your ADHD.
