Can buspar make me manic? I don't have bipolar but I had a manic reaction to an ssri I think. I'm so worried. Can't stop the anxiety. Is it safe for people with bipolar? I hate meds.

Tangerine87, Hello.

It is well documented that anti-depressants including SSRI's and even other antidepressants can very well cause a "switching" effect in some people where it makes one manic. This happens to me on some antidepressants. It happened to me with a tricyclic AD. It happened to me on a tetracyclic AD. The answer to your question is yes, it is possible with buspar as it inhibits some of the serotonin receptors.

Do the research and you will see. I do not believe that I have bipolar because a chemical induced a hypomanic reaction in me. I do not have a bipolar diagnosis because my current pdoc is smart and aware that if I am not on AD's I do not have any mania at all. Best wishes
