I've been 2 years suffering from depression and anorexia, but started treatment on last August, and nothing seems to get better. I'm still underweight, i still fear eating, I'm hopeless about the future, today i even admitted to my psychiatrist that i've given up on people and i don't see why i should try to get better. She gave me another appointment in 15 days, to let me think. Do you think i should ask for medication? Therapy isn't helping much. Did you ask your doctor for it, or was him/her who said you could use it? The voice of actually wanting to get better is getting quieter as months pass.

Medication could make all the difference for you. I'd give it a try.

Best of luck,

Thank you. But, let me ask you one more question, did you ask your doctor if you could take any meds or was him/her who brought the topic up? I don't want to annoy her, as if i was telling her how to do her job... Should i just say how i feel and she'd bring that up?

I was prescribed it. If therapy is not helping, then your depression might be more physically based. In that case, medication is the way to go.
Thanks for this!

If you think you might benefit from medication I'd talk to your doc about it.

I went to a therapist because I wasn't sleeping and couldn't stop moving or keep track of my thoughts. She sent me to a pdoc who recommended meds BC I was suicidal and very sleep deprived. So it was more someone recommending it to me.

But there's nothing wrong with initiating a conversation with your doc about it!

Thank you so much, i guess i'll talk with her about how therapy isn't helping and she'll decide what to do. Is medication worth a try?

You can always ask :-) Meds (and therapy) have yet to help me for anything besides sleeping better, but I know of other people who have been helped a lot by them.

If you're scared you'll come over as telling her how to do her job, you can always ask a little more ambiguously such as "Isn't there anything else we can try" or something similar.

Good luck! Let us know how it went.
