I was just diagnosed with ADD and my T said I'd be probably put on Ritalin. But my ADD is really effecting my schooling and social life, and I have to wait till July 11th to get meds. Anyone know a quicker way to get meds legally?

Why do you have to wait 'til July 11th? Can't your therapist send you the diagnosis to your doctor so you can get a prescription? My family doc writes all my psych med prescriptions.

Well my family doctor hasn't talked to me about anything at all. And the new doctor works at a behavorial health in-patient and out-patient care and that place is so crowded and the quickest time is July 11th. But I haven't tried any ADD meds yet. Would that have to do with my family doc not doing a prescription?

Not legally no. Adderall is better IMHO. Why so long to wait did he say?

One quick way to get your meds is to go to a hospital with a psychiatric ER. One that IS associated with your behavioral clinic. I doubt they'd give you a prescription, but they can get you an appointment quicker. I went through what you're going through-it was a three month wait for an appointment. I went to the psych ER, and was given an appointment for 3 days later!!! I was a happy camper.
I wouldn't go there asking for ritalin though, as that is a drug that's abused and they'll think you're a drug seeker. And, you won't get any anyways! I was previously on meds, and had moved out of state, so I was in a pickle. That's why I basically HAD to do that. I would have been admitted to the hospital if I ran out of my meds. So I hope nobody thinks this is wrong of me to suggest this option. |

The doctor I went to was booked with patients until July which is pretty insane, I never had to wait so long for an appointment. My mom works for the hospital so I thought that would benefit me somehow but I don't know.

It is insane! Are you going through a government or county funded place? If so, three months is normal for a first appointment
![]() Try the psych ER, if there is one. I'd try your mom too, she might know a way to help get you in faster without going to the psych ER. Although, going there isn't bad, you do get to talk to a pdoc. Don't worry about them keeping you there. Oh, and it wouldn't count as having been admitted to a p.hospital. Jen |
