I have been taking 5mg of Lexapro for a week and am wondering if the side effects ever go away. I take it in the morning and the headaches don't happen till the end of the day but the headaches have been getting a little more tolerable. The one side effect I can't tolerate is the insomnia. I manage to fall asleep very easily at around 11pm but I have been waking up after only 3 or 4 hours of sleep. I wake up at 2 or 3am and I can't seem to fall asleep. For the past few days, I have been taking a benzo to help me go back to sleep but I want to avoid using it unless I really have to. Will the insomnia go away?

I'm not sure if the insomnia will go away but it usually takes longer than a week for the medication to work properly and for your body to become accustomed to it.

Hello,
Sorry you are struggling with your med. 5mg is Lexapro is a pretty small dose. Like jelly-bean says, it's going to take a lil while longer to level out in your system. Are you seeing any positives yet? moogs

I'm on day four with the Lexapro at 5mg. Going to 10 tomorrow. I have a constant headache and tight neck muscles. I'm crying less and feel a little less anxious. I just hope the headaches subside soon. I'm also very tired. I hope you feel better. I hope the Lexapro works out for you.

I just want to share my continued experience with Lexapro. I'm on the 10 mg now and adjusting to the drug. headaches are gone. Sleeping great, crying spells are gone, anxiety is under control. It's only been 8 days so I'm happy to have the relief from my symptoms of horrible anxiety/depression. My Dr. Wants me to watch for any signs of mania. She said this could happen. I'm just happy to feel better. I hope I begin to feel less sleepy as I adjust. Maybe the Lamictal and Lexapro will finally be what works for me.

When I took Lexapro it took about a month for the medication to begin to work as well as the side effects to go away.
