I started IOP today and the pdoc is lowering my Abilify by half. I just lowered it to 30 from 40mgs and now he wants me to go to 15. I am so scared of withdraw effects as I have been on 40mgs for a few years. Has anybody ever had that drastic of a dose change before? If so, what symptoms did you have if any?

I've stopped and restarted 10 mg doses of ability a million times w no taper and I've been fine. I know that's a little different than your situation. Technically, it shouldn't cause any physical effects. Abilify has a really long half life and kind of self tapers off, much like Prozac. You may have an increase in whatever symptoms the abilify was treating however.

I went from 30 to 15 straight away too, and didn't have a problem. No withdrawal effects.

When I came off of Abilify I didn't have any withdrawal side effects either.

I really hate drugs but I'm stuck on them, is Abilify safe to take, even at 2 mg? I'm already on a mood stabilizer for long term! I do not want to take any more drugs and terrified of trying it. The doctors wants to put me on it. Like risk of diabetes weight gain, I think I rather suffer with symptoms instead or deal with them naturally!

Can anyone please tell me their experiences on it ?

I've had no weight gain, no pre diabetes type symptoms. As a group, Geodon is considered the least likely to cause weight, with latuda and abilify following closely behind. At 2 mg a day it's highly unlikely you'll gain weight or develop diabetes. That's a really low dose.

Thank you! I am still unsure about taking it. I'll have to think it over some more. I had enough experiences with medication thank you for the response pinkflower17!!!

I went from 20 to 0 right away because I didnt like the panic attacks it was giving me, stayed in my system for a while because of the long half-life and then it was done.

At 2mg I don't know if Abilfy will do you any good either, I believe the effective dose is 10-20mg.

My depression has worsened since I first wrote the original post. Last night I decided to go back up to 30mgs and see what would happen. I don't feel like my normal self, however I feel 100% better than I did on the 15mgs. That pdoc can go stick it in the mud for all I care. I am going to continue taking the 30mgs until MY pdoc says differently or this pdoc wants to change my whole mood stabilizer or taper me down to the 15.
