Hi,
I'm taking 15mg of Mirtazapine at night, a week and half. I'm not seeing any effect in my depression and anxiety. Last night, for exemple, I couldn't sleep because I have an anxiety attack. How long this drug will take action??? Will I suffer until my next psychiatrist consultation? |

I was on Mirtazapine for a while.
It did not help me even after a couple of months (it is not unusual for an AD to take that long to kick in fully). So, I suggest that you give it some time and if it is not helping you, have a talk with your psychiatrist about trying something else with a different pharmacology. __________________ The world is everything that is the case. I started taking this med about 3 months ago for sleep problems. My pdoc said that it is usually more sedating at lower doses. It only takes 7.5 mg or even half of that to make me sleepy. It has improved my sleep unbelievably.
I had taken Ambien for a long time and it seemed to have stopped working for me, so I was very glad to find this med. A couple of times I have been, I guess just too lazy to break the pill in half, and have taken 15 mg and found that it didn't make me sleepy at all. I'm not saying to change your dose on your own. (Just planting the idea in your head.) On the other hand, this med may not work for you if you have lots of anxiety at night. When I'm having anxiety problems, they tend to be worse in the daytime. I hope you get some good sleep soon. |

I'll preface my comment by saying that it's important to remember that every med works differently for different people.
Mirtazapine - I was on it for at least 6 months, maybe more. It didn't do a thing for me. |

OMG, I'm at week three from this meds, I still very suicidal and depressed. I'm very afraid that my psychiatrist will not change anything (no change in meds or dosage) in my next consultation.
I'm really sad. |

Lika, how long until your next visit to your psychiatrist? I'm sorry that you are having such a rough time.
I wanted to say that although I praised low-dose mirtazipine in a post above, I also take 60 mg Cymbalta. The mirtazipine was added because I developed delayed-onset sleep problems. It fixed that really well and seems to have improved my overall mood, too (unless just getting better sleep did that on its own.) If it's more than a few days until you see your psychiatrist, can you call and report your symptoms and see if they will adjust your medication before you go back in? I know that every doctor has different preferences, but I have had doctors do that for me in the past. Hugs. |

Just hit my 3 week mark on Mirtazapine 30mg. Still waiting for improvement. Still, happy to stay on it because I have no side effects apart from increased appetite and a short temper. I should come with the warning label: "Throw the chocolate and retreat slowly" haha.
Hope you feel some benefit soon! __________________ Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (BPD) Bipolar Disorder Dissociative Problems Auditory Hallucinations Quetiapine (Seroquel) 150mg -tapering to Aripiprozole (Abilify) 10mg |

This meds is giving (or depression I don't know), the biggest tiredness of all my life. I can sleep for 24 hour straight.

My doctor told me that mirtazipine causes more sleepiness at lower doses than it does at higher doses. I don't know if that means tiredness, too. I do know that 7.5 mg at bedtime makes me get sleepy and that 15 mg does not do that as much.
Maybe it's possible that your doctor will raise your dose to 30 mg and that you will have more energy and sleep less. I don't know. Maybe it will just not be a good med for you. Hugs. |

I have noticed it affecting my temper too! Interesting. I find myself arguing with people and making snide remarks. I am holding back when I feel that way or I'd be saying a lot more.
And the appetite effects are unsettling. It's like a voice inside my head says "FEED ME - FEED ME NOW. ICE CREAM - A WHOLE PINT & A LARGE PIZZA, TOO." I usually have a talk with the "voice" then give it some yogurt. Then I fall asleep while it's still muttering about how it could wipe out a whole chocolate cake. |
