I've been on Celexa since I was six, and I'm now fifteen. Things have gotten a lot worse for me in the past few months, and I'm pretty dramatically falling apart. My mother will not let me switch medications, although she let my twin brother do it, and I worry that it could either be not working or harming me. The psychiatrist said it should only be taken for two years, but I don't really have an option to switch. Who knows why I'm asking this.
So, uh, opinions/ideas/knowledge about how long to take Celexa for, and the effects of children taking antidepressants/antianxiety medications for a long time? It's been almost a decade, as I turn sixteen in not-so-long, and I've been unquestioningly taking the little pink pill for ages.

I don't think it should be up to your mother whether you change meds or not. That should be a decision between your doctor and your self, based on what is or is not working. Have this discussion with the prescribing doctor without her in the room.
Personally, it shocks me to hear of a 6 year old on antidepressants! |
