I have been diagnosed with Major depression in the past and have taken meds for it for a long time without total relief. I would have months of really doing well and then months of not doing well at all. I became very frustrated many times but my doctor said it was just the way it was. I had a really bad depression since last October til about mid May. My doctor decided I might have a mild case of bipolar and wanted me to try lamictal. I started in January on 25mgs and went up about every 3 weeks 25 more until I got to 100mg am and 100 mg pm.By mid may I started doing so much better. Only time will tell if this is any part of the answer to my being able to stay stable. I hope this works. I am so tired of those long long months of depression. Has anyone out there tried lamictal?

I haven't tried it, but today my doc asked me if I wanted to switch to it because I was getting back into a deep depression again, I told him I did not want anymore meds that made me "tired,""fat", or lose anymore hair! I more or less have had it with the side effects that all these meds have had on me, I've gained 37lbs. in 1yr. and have lost much hair and here I am now still dealing with mild bipolar, mostly depression, and now more depressed than ever because of the weight gain and fatigue, so when he said all the "good" new stuff about lamictal, I still kindly said, with my bull head, no thanks. But tell me is it good? Did you notice any side effects, weight gain, thinning of hair, rashes, fatigue? Let me know, maybe I'll give in and let him try it on me, what the hell I've been trying stuff with the docs for 2yrs. now, I know what would work for me but the docs, say "no", they rather pump the "kiddies" up with it who are ADD, that was another label on my diagnosis, but they won't treat me for that, go figure, right?
