I've been very depressed and having hallucinations since before the depression kicked in...I think the hallucinations are what triggered the depression (but that's for another thread). I'm on Latuda which usually works pretty well, but sometimes needs a boost. I was on Thorzine which is a reeeeaaallly old ap, but my pdoc wanted to drop it since it wasn't really helping but a tiny bit. I know a lot of people here take Geodon. How does it work for you, and does anyone take another ap with it?

i took geodon for a long time, a year, maybe two? i dont remember. it really worked great to balance me out. no weight gain or other noticeable side effects. i am very sensitive to meds and dont have many options available to me so it was great that this option worked. and kicked out a manic cycle very effectively.

i am not saying this will happen to you, just want to give you warning to watch for as nobody watched for or noticed in me. as i said, i am very very sensitive to meds and side effects. over time, my pinkie started sticking up in the air to where it was very noticable. i would be made fun of, people gesturing like i was formally drinking a cup of tea. eventually, my forefinger started sticking up as well. soon i was making the sign language sign for "i love you". when it was the pinkie i was always thinking it was an anxious tic. i got hurt at work and the workmans comp dr noticed the splayed fingers and said it was neurological, asked when it started and putting 2 and 2 together i was able to trace it back to beginning geodon. tartive dyskenesia. which i got when i was taking haldol in a different way. so i stopped it and it pretty much went away. well i got triggered about four months latter and massive mania we couldnt control and so i started haldol and the pinkie went up again but the mania didnt go so i started the geodon again and the hand went crazy. but the mania was gone in a week. stayed on it for about four months but then i got an eye twitch so i stopped it, twitch went away immediately. two months now and my pinkie is still elevated about an inch.

so while i think it is a great drug, just watch for the TD. your doc doesnt always stay conscience of this.

I've been taking Geodon for about 2 months. The first 6 weeks was very hard as far as the Geodon causing insomnia. I've had to increase the dose verrry slowly, not nearly as quickly as my p-doc suggested at first. Before the Geodon I was taking Seroquel, and I'm still taking 25mg of it at night because I've had such severe withdrawal issues with the Seroquel.

The things I like about Geodon are it's antidepressant effect, it calms my mind, and it doesn't seem to cause the horrendous sugar cravings that many other AP's cause.
Thanks for this!

That's one thing that is SO weird about Geodon! I've noticed from the comments on PC and from reviews online- for some people, it causes miserable and disabling insomnia, for others it causes extreme sleepiness.
