I am biting my citalopram pills in half and taking 10mg per day instead of 20mg.
I have headaches, difficulty dropping off to sleep and astonishingly vivid dreams. On the other hand I have more energy and certain personal, ahem, male, problems have eased. Should I be concerned? No good seeing the quack - it takes weeks getting an appointment. |

How long have you been on the medication? If it's fairly new, you might do well at 10mg for awhile, then try going up. And you don't have to go up to 20mg; you can do 15mg...see how that works.
I take an SSRI (Lexapro); I'm prescribed 20mg, but I found that the full dose made me feel anxious. So I've taken a half dose for a year & it was alright. Only this week, because I'd been feeling rather depressed, did I increase the dose to the full 20mg. It seems to be okay, so far. |

14 months, but I have always hoped to end after a year.

If it helps, then get yourself a pill cutter from the pharmacy. Do you have anyone to help you monitor your symptoms?
I would go ahead and line up a "quack" when you can get an appointment, though. ![]() |

Well, only you know how you feel. 10mg or 15mg might be fine for you. In my experience, very few p-docs will suggest a more avant-garde treatment approach, but patients often find such approaches helpful.

I feel so much better on a half dose - this weekend will be the deciding factor as the half life of of citalopram means I will be on a stable lower dose from now on.

Still OK despite worrisome work difficulties.
