I was prescribed restoril for sleep since my sleep is messed up. I know everyone is different, but I'm still interested in hearing the experiences of others. I'm kind of nervous to take it since it's a benzo..

I found it too disorienting for my taste. Made me feel really foggy, dizzy in the head. For sleep I prefer xanax, which is also a benzo, but I find it much less physically and psychologically intrusive while also being great for sleep. Even the lowest dose of Restoril, and I kept asking for smaller dosages until they had me all the way down to 7.5 mg capsules since my pdoc was really keen on it working for me for some reason, but even that made me feel wonky well into the next day. It's a hypnotic.

That's just my personal experience though -- I don't know how closely it corresponds with anyone else's. I certainly think it's safe enough to try, benzos wear off quickly enough .. and you may have a different experience altogether than I did, or have different personal requirements. As with anything new though you might want the first couple of days you try it to be ones without super important scheduled events. Good luck!

I take 2-3 mg xanax to sleep and several years ago was taking Restoril 60 mg in addition to the xanax. I started waking up at night unable to walk or speak. I could only moan like an animal. This only happened at night. My pdoc ended up admitting me and checked my EEG and MRI which were normal. He stopped the Restoril and I have not had any more aphasia.

I have tried a lot of meds to help with my sleep problem, and Restoril has helped the most. I take 30 mg at bedtime and sleep pretty well with it. I don't have any bad side effects from it

i recently was prescribed Restoril for sleep and had horrible side effects. It gave me the worst nightmares of my life and even an experience with sleep paralysis. I'm sure it works well for others but for me it was just not a good fit. Also, dont suddenly stop taking it if you decide it isnt working for you. I did this after taking it for only 4 days and went through extreme benzo withdrawals.
