I am getting frustrated with meds. I thought I finally found a decent combo - Lamictal and Lexapro, but I just had to quit the lamictal cold turkey last week because I got a rash. I see my P-Doc tomorrow, what other meds are on the table for depression (possible bipolar). The Lamictal worked great and I'm sad I have to come off it. It seems like other mood stabalizers have more crappy side effects including weight gain which is really problematic because I have a lot of body issues and I will not be able to handle gaining weight from a med.

I know everyone is different in terms of how meds work etc, just looking for some stories of what worked for you if you take mood stabilizers or had to switch from Lamictal to something else. Thanks.

The rash can mean you were given a higher dose than you needed. You start low and build up to a certain level. That's what I did

There are a ton of mood stabilizers out there...I've been on:

- Lamictal (went off too because of the rash)
- Seroquel
- Geodon
- Zyprexa
- Lithium
- Abilify
- Latuda
- Depakote

...and probably a few more that I'm forgetting. So like I said, there are tons of options out there.

My long list looks like SDRLife's list. Finally Geodon is working! I haven't been this stable in many years.

I forgot to say -- many of these meds kept me stable for awhile and then stopped working, so I've been on a few of them multiple times. I'm currently on Latuda and loving it.

Thanks for asking, my AD was increased and we're going to start over on the Lamictal. I'm frustrated that I have to start over again, but also glad I can give this med another chance. If I get a rash again though then I have to try something else.
Thanks for this!

Sorry you have to start over. That really blows. I was given the option of starting over, but I refused because I was not about to risk getting that rash again because my entire body was covered and I can't remember a time in my life when I itched so badly! I

I hope it goes well for you!

I'm on a not commonly used mood stabilizer called Zonegran, and it works great for me!

I've been on Trileptal for six years without any problems.
