A few weeks ago (dunno how long exactly) I noticed that when I laid down to rest I was getting sudden jerking in various muscles. Shoulders, sometimes in my lower back or abdomen, upper legs, arms... now it's mostly my arms and especially shoulders. I've also noticed that I could be sitting and watching TV or doing whatever and suddenly I'll take a sudden and quick but deep breath. This happens a fair bit actually and is a new thing for me. It'd happen once in a blue moon before but now it'll happen several times in a sitting sometimes. Lately though, I've noticed the shrugging movements especially creeping up randomly throughout the day as well. Not a whole lot yet, though.
At first, I thought I was doing this on purpose or something because I sometimes almost feel like a get a split second feeling of onset before it happens if that makes sense? And I still wonder that.

I'm not on an AP right now. And I haven't been for a while. I'm on just Effexor XR. And no facial or tongue involuntary movements I don't think. I haven't really thought anything about it until today, I just thought it was a weird quirk that would go away. Maybe it is nothing? I don't really want to bring this up to the dr if I don't have to... don't want them thinking I'm crazier than they do already

Rand., I am on Effexor XR as well and have not noticed what you have experienced.

Maybe talk about this with your doctor and get him/her to refer you to a specialist (perhaps a neurologist) for a thorough investigation.

I had that jerking issue while on Cymbalta. It's apparently a fairly rare side effect, but it's listed in the drug info. And it's now stopped since I switched meds (to Zoloft). Effexor is also an SNRI, so it could be causing that for you. Definitely talk to your doctor. Also, I was told that if I stopped the med and the jerking didn't stop after a few weeks, to consult a neurologist. Thankfully, it stopped. Might be worth trying to change your med first.

Also, with me, the jerks were only when I was either sitting or laying down as well. I think they're technically called "myoclonic jerks," so try using that term with your p-doc.
Thanks for this!
