My idiot pdoc pretty much said there's nothing he can do to help me with my anxiety other than switch my benzo from klonopin to something else. I said no. I've tried other benzos, and I like klonopin the best. I asked if I could add an SSRI to help with the anxiety and he said no because people with bipolar can't take SSRIs (and there's where the idiot title comes in: he's the one who not only kept me on Zoloft but upped my dose to 200mg back in May).

So then I was like, what about buspar? I said my brother has taken it and it really helped him (my brother isn't biologically my brother, so that's kind of a moot point, but he doesn't have to know that), and he agreed. THANK GOD. I can't keep living like this...my anxiety is killing me and making it impossible for me to act like a "normal", functioning human.

Anyone with any experience with buspar? Did it work? I've heard it's hit or miss. Any side effects? How long did it take to work? Anything else?

I'm sorry you have a lousy p-doc. There are way too many of those, imo.

BuSpar has not been helpful for me, but my adult daughter (who suffers from severe GAD) finds BuSpar very helpful.

Good luck - I sure hope it helps you.

Thanks.

Yeah, he is lousy, but he's the best I could get on short notice, and the only one I could get willing to treat me from afar.

In January, when I move back home, I switching back to my old pdoc. She actually listened to me and cared about what was going on in my life
Thanks for this!

Buspirone has been so/so for me. It doesn't help a ton, but it does help some. I have noticed way more sweating... Weird, right? Also, dry mouth... Very limited side effects...

Hit or miss is what a former pdoc told me, too. It was "miss" for me, but one of my siblings has taken it for years for anxiety with good results.

AM - sweating is a common side effect of drugs that affect serotonin in my experience. It was way worse for me when I first started taking psych meds. I remember playing on a volleyball team once and sweating a puddle on the ground around me. Even my shins sweated.

I'm on prozac and I'm doing just fine, it was for anxiety and the Buspar helps...it took a little but to work I guess, but I like it. Long term use.

Didn't help me at all .. I was constantly nauseous 24/7. I tried it for a total of 6 weeks. I hope you find something that will help you.

I started it yesterday, and so far, no side effects. I should know by the end of the week if it'll give me any side effects because with every med I've tried the side effects if there were any kicked in within 3 days. My pdoc has me on 7.5mg 2x/day for 5 days then 10mg 2x/day after that. From what I've read that's pretty typical dosing.

It's definitely helping my anxiety -- other than my nightly klonopin I take to help me sleep, I haven't taken any since I started it. However, I feel like it's making me sleepy. I was so excited that Wellbutrin made me "wired" so to speak and lessened my need for caffeine, but the buspar has negated that. It's not terrible, but it's really annoying to be tired all day long. I hope that goes away, but if it doesn't, I'll just drink more tea -- no big deal.

I'm up to 20mg/day (10mg 2x/day), and I feel like the 10mg in the morning is making me a zombie. I'm not usually this tired, especially when I'm not depressed, and I'm pretty much out of my depressive state. Today is only day 2 with it...does that tiredness go away? Because if it doesn't, we're gonna have problems.

Tiredness went away after a bit for me. It took a couple of weeks, but it did get better.

The tiredness is already starting to go away. I had my regular cup of tea this morning, but no other caffeine today and I've been on the go all day and absolutely fine. Thank goodness!

My anxiety has gone down enough that when I asked for my klonopin refill I said he could write it for less. I've only used it at night since a few days after I started buspar, so I figure why have more on hand than necessary?

I don't see a difference with Buspar, so I give it to my dog for his aggression problems and it seems to help him.

I just started on Buspar this past Thursday. I have heard that it apparently doesn't do anything, but I have noticed that I am a lot calmer than I was before, and I was having anxiety to the point of physical symptoms (racing heart, sweating, nausea, etc.). I am currently on 15mg daily, working my way up to 30. I think once I hit 30mg, I will notice an even bigger difference. I have not noticed many side effects, but the one thing that sticks out in my mind (and even so, it's not major) is that fact that I am more tired than usual. It's not a marked difference, and my pdoc says the side effect should disappear within a couple of weeks.

I went to my best friend's house a couple of nights ago, and she mentioned that she thought I seemed much more relaxed. So, I do believe it is helping... although I'm not quite where I want to be just yet. Like I said, the 30mg dose should do the trick.

Hope you find some answers and that Buspar helps you! Best of luck.

I tried it a while back. It gave me some calming effects, kinda like klonopin. But thing is it gave me extreme headaches and made me feel ill in my stomach so I stopped it.

I was put on Buspar a few months ago, and it took a while to take any effect but I think it's helped. 15mg twice a day along with 100mg of Pristiq seems to be a combo that helps me realize my obsessive anxious thoughts don't have complete control over me and I can fight them. Previously on Pristiq and abilify which didn't do a dang thing for the anxiety lol.

I don't think I had any bad side effect though. I hope this med works for you too!

10mg 2x daily seems to be working for me great! I've lowered my klonopin usage by a lot (instead of taking it 2x/day PLUS at bedtime, I now only take it at bedtime and I've decreased from 2mg to 1mg at bedtime). I'm liking the Wellbutrin and Buspar combo for myself quite a bit. I do think that the Buspar has caused a bit of constipation, but I'll take being a little constipated over being debilitatingly anxious any day!

I tried buspar. Worst reaction ever. I never have bad reactions to medications but now I know it is possible.

When I took it, most of the time there would be a couple hour window where I'd feel so ******. I felt like I weighed 2000lbs and when I walked my feet were attached to cinder blocks. I felt so sick, and out of it (not in a possibly enjoyable way)
However as mentioned everyone is different. Good luck
