I have been on lamictal 25mg for one week, and I started 50mg yesterday, but let me tell you my mood has been all over the freaking place and I thought that this was supposed to be a mood stabilizer.

Yesterday I was so immensely depressed that I had to GO HOME, then today during the day I was feeling great, good enough to meet a friend for pizza, enjoy life. and I was like wow maybe this **** is working on 50 mg. and NOW TONIGHT I FEEL LIKE **** AGAIN. WHAT IS THIS CRAZINESS.

did anyone else have mood instabilities while titrating with lamictal????

Qwerty, how bad were your symptoms beforehand and have you been on other mood stabilizers in the past?
I suppose some of the answer to that might be in the word "titrating"; I have no idea what that word means.
I've taken many mood stabilizers.
Lamictal is what I'm on now... if memory serves it is called an 'atypical' type of bipolar med. It's used to treat bipolar 1; that is according to a write-up I have on it.
It works like a charm for me.

Do, please, take this post with a tiny grain of salt.

Because you are on such a low dose still, it probably isn't doing anything for your mood yet. The general therapeutic dose for lamictal is considered to be 200mg (though some people see benefit on a lower dose and others need higher than 200mg), so you have a way to go. That's the frustrating thing about lamictal because you have to titrate up so slowly, you won't begin to see any benefit for awhile.

For me it started working mood stabilizing after i got over 150 mg. Until then i hardly could see any effect at all. Now on 200. Pretty good for me.

Actually it does! I was surprised because i've heard just opposite. And i was coming off from seroquel same time... Amazingly i was able to sleep

I think Lamictal relieves my anxiey and racing thoughts, which would wake me up usuyally. Maybe it's that how it works

Awesome! I was wounding cuz I planned on asking for it but I'm afraid it won't help me sleep. So I'm on the fence between it and depakote and seroquel and whatever else.

My mind runs even when I am asleep, I don't understand how a person can be asleep and a part of there brain is non stop yacking.

Yeah I agree i definitely think that it has helped lower my anxiety and racing thoughts. But don't feel lethargic like I do on some medicines, which is really nice.

I've been on 100mg for a week now. I'm not taking it for Bipolar, though, it's for my depression, so I'm not really sure if they have the same therapeutic dose or whatever. I think my pdoc wants to see how the 100 is working for me before raising more.

I have had the same reaction qwerty.
My moods are all over. More than before.
I am only at 75 & have just felt flat. Don't care about much.
How are you doing now?

My pdoc has me going up slowly, too, and I'm still at 50mg. I don't feel suicidal anymore, per se, but I sure have been crying a lot lately.

Better to cry though right? Titrating lamictal - mood is all over Titrating lamictal - mood is all over Titrating lamictal - mood is all over
