Lamictal and weight gain?

Hey guys,

New here,

Hoping someone can shed some light on the topic of lamictal. and weight gain cause I know it's typically supposed to be weight neutral but after doing some of my own research after gaining about 40 lbs in one year I've found that it can happen in between 1-5% who take lamictal.

As well as the weight I've put on it seems that I've been having tummy troubles too like lots and lots of gas the runs after I eat and bloating.

I just wanna hear if any of you have any experiences?

I'm having a really hard time with this as I have dealt with eating disorders in my past and fear greatly of becoming overweight.

are you gluten intolerant by any chance, as eating gluten can cause bloating and the runs, I wonder if you could try have a gluten free day and see if you feel any better?

What other meds do you take and how much Lamictal are you taking?

According to research Lamictal is weight neutral:

To evaluate the effect of lamotrigine on body weight in adult patients with epilepsy, we conducted a retrospective review of data from 463 patients treated with lamotrigine in 32 clinical trials. Mean daily dose was 259 (+/-155) mg and duration of therapy was 318 (+/-87) days. The mean change in body weight was 0.5 (+/-5) kg. Lamotrigine was associated with stable body weight in patients with epilepsy.

However, everyone's body reacts differently. When I asked my Shrink about Lamictal and weight he says it's not always weight neutral and he has had patients gain on it.
