So I've lost weight while on Risperdal before. After my initial diagnosis (Psychosis) I was placed on Haldol and switch to 2 mg of Risperdal because I couldn't function like a normal person. While on 2 mg I was able to lose 50 pounds by eating right and working out.

A few years later i had the bright idea to try & figure out if I could go off my meds because I really wanted to know if it happened because of laced weed like everyone else said or if the weed just triggered something in my brain and I needed it. I got down to .25 mg or .5 mg and started hearing voices so i went up to 1 mg with my psychiatrist but it wasn't working quick enough so and i ended up being hospitalized and raised to 5 mg.

After being on 5 mg for a bit I decided to go back to 2 mg because it worked & I was able to lose weight. I gained now 60 pounds and I'm at 2.5 mg. I'm hoping/thinking that once I get back to 2 mg I'll be able to lose weight again. Everywhere I look people say that they could not lose weight on Risperdal but I've done it before.

Has anyone else been able to lose weight on Risperdal?

I'm on 5 mg a day of Risperidone, and I'm successfully losing weight. I'm working with a dietician, on eating more healthily and I'm slowly starting to walk regularly. The weight loss is slow but definite. In the last 3 months, I've lost 14 lbs.

Wow. Ok! I am so glad that you told me this because everywhere I look people always say that you cant do it. So I started to fear that it was impossible and that maybe the first time it happened because of the drastic difference between haldol and risperdal.

Thanks for the hope!

That's outstanding! Congratulations... and slow but steady is the way to go with weight loss.
