Okay, so I've been on both Prozac Brand and Prozac Generic now for, get ready, over 20 years. Yes, folks, that long. On and off, I should say. I would always get to a point where I was feeling better, than weaned myself off of them, only to "crash and burn" months later.
Anyway, I'm nowhere near a young 'un anymore.....so part of me wants to just stay where I am with the Prozac (40 mg) and using Trazodone at night for sleep. But my pdoc feels that the meds just aren't keeping me stable enough anymore ad wants me to try a newer version of ADs. On my bad days, I feel like "what the heck, cuz it sucks right now anyway". But then I get a few good days and I turn right back around. Let's put it this way - I am PETRIFIED of trying a new AD. At one point, I did in fact try Lexapro which didn't work for me (massive leg muscle cramps - downright painful). Would love to hear any/all thoughts from those of you who know what I'm talking about and your experiences. Thank you! |

It happened to me. I thought I was doing okay on Prozac. It was the first modern AD I'd ever tried. It was far from perfect but it also worked far better than anything else I'd tried. I was in an MHMRA program at the time. Doc and caseworkers rotated in and out like clockwork. One new doc decided I wasn't doing well enough. He switched me from Prozac to Effexor XR. Long story shortened... it was neither better nor worse.
I hope things work out for you. I understand how scary a new med can be. It took my first MHMRA doc two weeks to convince me to try Prozac. That was near the time of the Scientologists campaign against meds and all the horror stories about Prozac. |
