Hi. I started nefazodone a few weeks ago, and am still waiting and hoping for it to work. I'm pretty sure it's causing side effects, though I can't be 100% sure what exactly is from it and what's just from depression and stuff making me feel like ****.

I've had nearly constant headaches, which I'm prone to but I think the nefazodone is causing them. I feel so fatigued all the time and can barely pull myself up in the morning. I've had fatigue a lot with depression before, but this is a new kind. It's literally not even possible to just push myself to do much, the energy is just lacking in every cell of my body and I can drink so much caffeine and not feel anything, or be driving and feel literally like I could fall asleep and need to pull over. Lots of unexplained soreness, too. I think it causes an odd type of anxiety increase when I'm in public. And I've just been feeling weird mentally, detached, and increased derealization, which again do tend to vary with depression.

It's hard to find much about nefazodone online and I just can't decide whether these are worth sticking out or likely to go away. I'm just at a place where I'm trying so hard to get better and function better, and I can't afford adding any more crappy feeling than absolutely necessary. It was similar with Cymbalta, the last med I tried, and I may need to give meds longer trials but I just can't stand feeling so much crappiness on top of the depression and stuff if I don't have much hope it'll get better and help. So sick of meds.

Any advice?
Hugs from:

I probably found the same thing you did: Common side effects of Serzone (nefazodone hydrochloride) include dizziness, drowsiness, lightheadedness, headache, weakness, nausea, dry mouth, sore throat, diarrhea, constipation, sleep problems (insomnia), increased appetite, or vision problems. but nothing stating how long they usually last.

From the user reviews I saw it seemed most started feeling better between 6-8 weeks(if it worked).

I usually give whatever med they give me 10 weeks. If I'm not feeling better by then well it can kiss my patoot. I'm lucky and the only side effect I usually get is rage and crankiness but on the few occasions I have suffered I had to assess whether the pros outweighed the cons.

Let's say tomorrow you woke up and the depression was gone but everything else stayed would it be worth it to you?

PS: did they warn you that the drug was banned in several countries for causing liver failure?

I can relate, I am sorry you are going through this.

It is hard to know if it is worth pushing through or not. It seems like it can only be answered after the fact. I have done it for some drugs and the side-effects mostly went away. Of course, the drugs never helped so it was pointless suffering.

I lasted 2 days on Risperidone because the side-effects were so heavy, I felt like a zombie. I felt like I would die if I took it another day so I stopped and it took 2 weeks to get clear of the side effects. That was only on 0.5mg once a day.

You might consider getting in touch with your doctor and discuss what is going on. Sometimes adjusting dosage or even changing when you take it can make a world of difference.

I used to take Geodon twice a day and I couldn't get through an afternoon without getting the shakes bad and sleeping. My doctor told me to take it only after dinner(its bio-availability is dependent on food, if you take it on an empty stomach it does next to nothing) and the shakes and sleepiness went away. I can't explain why, and neither can my doctor.

Good luck, I hope things improve for you.
