going to try to keep this short..
i have tried antidepressants by themselves and had no luck at all... then i was over medicated due to bipolar diagnosis and the depression seemed like it got better, but i was on alot of meds.. i know i cant get by on monotherapy ... the seroquel seemed like it helped a bit but i dont want to get back on it for 2 reasons... its hard for me to swallow - atleast the 400mg pills i had are biggest pill i've ever taken... and the sedation in the beginning is something im not trying to get back into... the sedation wore off after a year or whatever but i dont want to do that again... im just wondering if any of you could share experience with what helped your depression... before i left the old clinic i was thinking about trying latuda or abilify but im honestly just a bit nervous about getting back on an antipsychotic... any other non ap meds that can help? or what meds are best for severe mdd..? i have insomnia and hypersomnia so i dont really care about sleep... have nightmares alot too so... would rather not have a great deal of sedation though... i am just interested in others experiences with successes in treating depression... am only taking wellbutrin sr 150mg bid currently... i know i could add an ssri or snri to wellbutrin but i also not sure about getting back on them since they didnt really help last time... but if i had to i probably would get back on the cymbalta... much thanks... need to get this depression under control because its killing me... dont want any more scars... ![]()

I'm on a cocktail. I take Effexor, Celexa, Risperidone, Seroquel, and Klonopin.
The first 3 are for depression, the second 2 anxiety. Risperidone has proven to be a really effective mood enhancer for me, augmenting the AD's. You might want to talk to your prescriber about trying it. splitimage |

All SNRI's have ever done for me is give me brain shocks and permanent tinnitus. SSRI's are worse than placebo for me.
Risperidone was awful for me, I lasted 2 days on it before I have to stop. I am really sensitive to psycho-active meds so I usually get a lot of side effects and I am reluctant to stop taking the few meds that don't do that, even if something better exists. I really like Geodon. I am taking it for psychosis symptoms as well as a depression adjunct. It works pretty well with the former but doesn't help a lot with the latter. I am only taking 20mg which is very low, but I almost never tolerate these types of drugs in their normal dosage range. I hated it at first because it gave me the shakes badly, and I couldn't get through the afternoon without sleeping. My pdoc cut out the morning dose and those problems are gone. I take the evening dose with dinner because it needs food to provide any bio-availability. It is hard to tell because I have a pinched nerve and lots of anxiety, but it might be causing a little neuropathic pain. Other then the above, I don't have any other negative side-effects with it. Unlike most antipsychotics it is weight neutral and many lose weight on it. I have lost nearly 50 pounds on it (since last August), which is great for me, I am almost in the healthy weight range for my height. It also has a low incidence rate of tardive dyskinesia. I get all my meds through the VA so I don't know if it is reasonably priced, if that is a concern. My pdoc seemed hesitant to offer it after I shot down Seroquel, Abilify and Lithium because of weight concerns and cost is what usually makes VA doctors hesitant about offering any kind of treatment I don't think Remeron does much for me except help with my sleep, but it might be in a class you haven't tried yet, thus worth exploring: NaSSA. Of course all of this is "your mileage may vary". Everyone reacts differently and sadly they have to be tried to know if they are worth taking. This is the part of psychiatry that I hate.

thanks
im scared of the risperidone because of the prolactin stuff.. i had really high levels prolactin on zyprexa and had a mammogram done because there were lumps getting bigger in my breast ![]() being a guy i dont wanna wear a bra... luckily they seem to have gone away since i haven't been on the zyprexa for a while.. i think its just so hard for me to get a good cocktail because my mind is so scrambled... 1 med might help this thing but make that thing worse... ![]() dunno what to do... guess i just need to have an indepth conversation with a psychiatrist about all of it so he can decide for me... i probably would get back on the seroquel if i didnt have to fight the sedation and choke myself on the pill every night mom said they might would give me enough 100mg pills to do the 300-400 dose a night but i dunno if they would do that.. seems like alot of pills... treating the mind is so complicated... this stuff is driving me crazy.. and the stress is just making my mind do weird things...

I added abilify to my Cymbalta and it seemed to help the depression and the anxiety although it took two months to really help. Low dose of ten MG Abilify. I'd try that before I'd try seroquel.
But you're right, you need to speak to a psychiatrist and see what she or he recommends. Mine narrows it down to two or three options but always makes me make the final decision. Good luck on your search! Sent from my mobile device using Tapatalk.
