At my psych nurse's office, she gave me some kind of DNA test, where you swab the inside of the person's cheek, and send it to a lab. It is to determine which medications are best for you, specifically.

So, because of my results, and because I was having major trouble with motivation, and some other things, we are trying a new med, wellbutrin. Been on it for 3 weeks. So far I alternate between feeling ok on it, and not being able to sleep and like, heart flutters. The not being able to sleep, and the palpitations are recent. Like last couple of days. She is aware of it. Over the weekend, I was suicidal though. It was really really scary. I'm also on abilify, but I've been on that for a long time. I do have increased focus, but honestly, I don't think it's really helping me be in a positive mood. I think it's making me feel crummy. I weaned off of lexapro, for the first 2 weeks of taking wellbutrin. This third week, is just wellbutrin and abilify.

I just want to sleep. And not have freaking heart palpitations, or whatever it is, adrenaline, I don't know.

My diagnosis, is major depression. I also have generalized anxiety and social anxiety. I do wonder if I might be bipolar II. A lot of the SSRI's were not compatible with me, according to the gene test results. And I have had some mood issues like mega irritability and sensitivity.

I'm just frustrated tonight because I really want to sleep and not have this flip floppy feeling. Ugh. I am giving this (wellbutrin) another week tops, meaning, it could be less than that. Tomorrow I am supposed to start taking 5mg lexapro again as well, to see if that helps.

Note: if you can't follow this post, and it confuses you, or if you are going to say something that will freak me out, and you're not a medical professional or educated on the subject, please, just don't.

Have a great night everyone. I know I will try.

When do you take the wellbutrin? I'm on it, and I have to take it by 11am if I want to sleep that night, and if I want to avoid feeling funny. Also, I'm surprised that they would put you on wellbutrin when you have so much anxiety since it's known to increase anxiety. Just some thoughts. Good luck!

Ok so I just looked up the company I got tested through, and I'm finding some really interesting information. I am basically finding that this type of testing is not a guarantee of success, or reliable...basically there's not enough studies done about this kind of testing to know whether it works or not. Wellbutrin greatly increased my anxiety, so I had to stop taking it. I'm very sensitive to meds, though.

Good. Keep taking it in the morning, as early as possible. If I wake up too early to get up (say 7am or so), I'll take my morning meds even though I'm going back to bed. That guarantees I won't take them too late.

I have also taken wellbutrin XR and experienced increased anxiety after about 2 weeks of taking it. anxiety is a good reason to discontinue any drug. You can't like live like that

I loved Wellbutrin, although I did find it stimulating. That was fine for me since I was working 85 hours a week. I wasn't prescribed it for depression though, my Pdoc prescribed it for concentration and focus. When I moved my new Pdoc wouldn't let me continue it saying it was causing my manic episodes.

Oh wow. Yes, I am finding that it gives me energy, and much focus. Something I lacked before. I think I might continue with it for now. I hope it doesn't make me manic.

You may be feeling the effect of going off the lexapro.

When I first started Wellbutrin, it was 150mg of XL. It was activating for me, but I was also irritable and could not sleep. So my pdoc switched me to 200mgs SR and that helped so much better. I was desperate for the energy and concentration as well. Glad it worked out, and I hope you can have it adjusted as needed as well.
Oh! Also, if you're prone to anxiety, it can have an effect on that. I have heard that is a possibility.

Wellbutrin was great for my mood and motivation but it always made my anxiety much worse. It's pretty much like being on speed. It's generally not recommended for people who already have anxiety issues.

Nobody on here actually can give medical advice even if they are a doctor they can't say for example "because I'm a doctor you should do .."
