I was at the dentist today and the dentist said my tongue was moving and twitching, and that he'd never seen that before. I know it's my Abilify doing it, and I hate it. I've been shaking a lot all day. I go through periods of intense twitching and shaking that last for a few days and then for a few weeks, the twitching stops. Sometimes it's aggravated by not taking a med for a day or two, and sometimes I shake a lot when I drink caffeine.

I'm going to bring this up with my Pdoc when I see her next. The thing is, I could take Cogentin to stop the twitching at any time (I have it as needed) but I hate the drowsy feelings that med gives me, so I don't take it. I feel like I'm moving through molasses. Abilify works fine enough, it's just that it gives me these twitching flare ups.

The thought of having to take a medication just to deal with the side effects of another medication isn't right. Granted, there are exceptions like with Parkinsons. Ultimately it is up to you to decide if the Abilify is worth it, but personally I would explore other options if there are any.

That's tough and embarrassing. I have always been very upfront about my meds and what I take and my dentist has and is very understanding. It is an issue with med interactions and side effects. Do not be ashamed I am now dealing with my mom and much more severe issues with her neurological illness about swallowing and being able to handle a clean up at all. Good luck

I hate Abilify. It never did anything for me. Could you switch to a different med without that side effect?

I can certainly relate when I was put back on dexamphetimes I had a facial twitch the doctor didn't know what was causing it when I didn't take it same thing happened so we don't know the cause of my eyebrow twitchs or if it is stress related. Sometimes it really is your body just adjusting to meds.

Sounds like tardive dyskinesia. I had to go off of abilify due to tardive dyskinesia. I was chewing my lip, and doing weird things with my fingers. My pdoc just took me off of it.

Depakote and Geodon both did that to me...at 21 I was shaking so much that it kind of did look like I had Parkinson's, and I would get asked at least once daily if I was okay, and I would say yeah, it's just my meds. It was however extremely embarrassing, and also difficult -- imagine having a major tremor while trying to fill out a scantron sheet...that was me. I had to choke up on my pencil as much as humanly possible, bend down super close to the paper, and pay extremely close attention to what I was coloring. Tests took me 2-3x as long as they should have because of that!
