I've been on clozaril for about 3 months now. At first I thought I had escaped the constipation I'd heard about but now my body has adjusted to it and it is taking a bowel prep to get me going. Tomorrow will be my second (modified and not so intense) bowel prep. I'm on a prescription for constipation (amitiza) and will start Linzess on Monday. I'm also on colace and senna. None of it is working although it sounds like Linzess has a chance. Lots of water, fiber, walking (except this week b/c I sprained my ankle), to no avail.

Going off clozaril is just not an option. Obviously having bowel movements weekly and only with serious intervention is not an option either.

What have others done? I think this is specific for clozaril; I've been constipate on many meds but this is beyond explanation, just as I read it could be.

I've always had constipation that I took meds for (Macrogol) and therefore when I started clozapine my pdoc had me taking a Macrogol sachet twice a day. However that gave me bowel movements around 4-6 times a day, so I went back to 1 Macrogol sachet a day, and that's working out for me this far.

Wow, Miralax (what we call Macrogol) wasn't enough to do anything with this. I wish it would. But I have a lifetime of issues made worse by all psych drugs and now clozaril is out to see how bad bad can be. I did get everything cleaned out so now I have to just hope the Linzess keeps it that way.
