I Am Bipolar 2 and ADHD. Last few months, I was in horrible depression and SSRIs were not working out. So After doing some research, I found wellbutrin and at the start it was like a miracle cure.
It fixed my main issues of lethargy, procrastination and being antisocial. Above all, I could actually get out of bed in the morning and was ready to face the world. The first week after taking it, I was actually euphoric. It felt like I was on stimulants. That effect went away after about a week. The following two months the effects I was feeling were more subtle. Family and Friends noticed a significant improvement in my mood and productivity. I was happy but apprehensive. Being a pessimist, I knew there had to be a catch. This was too good to be true. Sadly I found the problem soon.
I realised that My memory was getting worst at an alarming rate. I had always had problems with being forgetful due to my Inattentive ADHD. This however was a different kind of memory loss. I would forget an what I was told a mere 5 minutes ago. Would be working on a report, get distracted and completely forgot to go back to the report.Would tell some one I would call them back in a minute and completely forget about it after 2 minutes. Went into a room no idea why i came, stood there with fridge open trying to remember what wife told me to get form kitchen.
In addition to memory problems I also felt a difference in way of thinking. It felt like I was becoming dumber. I found it hard to think logically, plan things or come up with solutions to menial problems. It was like I could not follow my own trail of though. I felt like my mental processing had slowed down significantly.
I also started forgetting words and names randomly. Conversations and arguments that used to come to me flawlessly were a chore now. I would always have what I wanted to say or write in my mind, but could not quite get it out.
I decided to wait it out in hope that these side effects would go away after another month and with things getting worst, I decided to do some research again. That is when I found that other people have been having similar problems. That was when I found the " Catch"
I discovered that the reason behind my symptoms were its anticholinergic effects. Too long to explain here but it reduces the nurotransmitter which has a big role in memory and learning.
It has been a week Since I quit Wellbutrin. I am experiencing not withdrawal effects even though I quit cold turkey ( i know bad idea but I could not handle it any more). The problem is even thouhgh I feel clearer in the head. My memory and reasoning skills have not improved. I am wondering now if it will ever improve.
Anyone with similar experience? did u get your intellect back? I need reassurance

Have you talked to your doctor? What did they say? I've not experienced what you are describing. I hope you feel better.

When did you start lamictal. Memory issues are a known issue with lamictal. FYI.

Maybe it's the Lamictal and the Welbutrin together...synergy of them.

I took Welbutrin for years and got two college degrees 3.97GPA and climbed in my carreer with no memory problems.

Like lolagrace said maybe it has something to do with the Lamictal. It messed my memory up quite a bit....but I got it back.

I know everyone's different so my experience is too.

I think this is what happened to me. I was first on Wellbutrin, but once Lamictal was added in, my memory has been horrible since.

I am on Lamictal and Wellbutrin and am seriously battling with memory. I can't even hold a proper conversation as I have to stop mid sentence to think where I was heading.
I was on Strattera too and stopped it about a month ago as I thought it was from the Strattera?

My pdoc advised me to reduce my Lamictal and to take it at night instead of in the morning. I just started yesterday, so hopefully this works. Because it seriously is concerning to me. Keeping Wellbutrin the same since I've been fine since I started it.
