Or however you spell it. Anybody used it PRN for performance anxiety? How did that work out?

I don't have personal experience, but googled "beta blockers performance anxiety" and got a lot of information. Inderal is a beta blocker.

I have used Inderal for a tremor called 'essential tremor' don't use it presently because it conflicted with diamox. don't use diamox now either. tremor can be a nuisance if you want to play pool..he he he...regards Jjulia

I didn't take it specifically for performance anxiety but it does help me with the overall physical symptoms of PTSD.
Here's an old thread with a link you might find interesting. (or not, lol) http://forums.psychcentral.com/showf...65&fpart=1 |

Yes, and atenolol. Both work just fine if you don't take too much, otherwise you will be sleeping through your own performance!

thanks guys. and thanks for the link to the other thread. i had a bit of a look online too and found that some places said that inderal DID cross the BBB (blood brain barrier) while others said that it didn't. my psychiatarist SWEARS that it doesn't... i don't know what to think.
i get performance anxiety when i go to ask questions in seminars when profs are there. i raise my hand (and get put in the queue) and then my heart starts beating really fast and loud and my hands start shaking and i start sweating profusely. i try and breathe... and tell myself 'it'll be okay people are friendly and accepting, it'll be okay' but that doesn't have any effect on reducing the fight / flight physiological symptoms. i can't focus on the discussion while i'm waiting in the queue and i start to have this terror that i'll be incoherant and / or faint or something like that. i'm perfectly fine when the profs aren't around, however. psychiatrist said that i should take it once and see how tired i get. then try and take it and ask a question and see how that works out. if i can find a dose that doesn't sedate me too much then my body should habituate after a few times of successfully asking questions. he swore that it wouldn't cross the BBB and / or affect my thinking. i guess... i should try it and see, huh... |
