Hi everyone,

About 90 days ago I decided to stop taking my Citalopram. I quit cold turkey with 0 withdrawal symptoms. About a week ago I decided I still needed them and started taking them again. Now, for the first time ever I am experiencing side effects. Mainly mild nausea and a pressure in my head. Is this a result of my cold turkey quitting a couple of months ago? Has anyone been through a similar thing? I've never experienced any side effects from an anti depressant before.

Thank you for any help!

Hello Adams1039: I cannot respond to your concern. From my perspective your concern is something that would need to be taken up with your prescribing physician. However I see this was your first post here on PC. So... welcome to PsychCentral… from the Skeezyks! I hope you find the time you spend here to be of benefit.

Nausea is a fairly common side effect from SSRIs when you first take them.

The first time I was on Citalopram it was the only side effect I had briefly for the first few weeks.

The second time I had the nausea, was a bit spaced out & was tired during the day but couldn't sleep at night.

Also now finding it isn't working as well for my anxiety & I am forgetful...

So basically, it's perfectly possible for the same SSRI to affect you in different ways if you start taking it again after a break.

Did you start taking them again under the guidance of a doctor? If you started straight on the same dose you were on before, that might have made you more prone to initial side effects.

As Seezyks says... if in doubt, it's always best to talk to your doctor. It is quite likely the side effects will subside soon though, but if they are troublesome... don't wait to ask your doctor.
