Hi all,
I have posted about my journey with zoloft recently, and I tried moving my medication dose to morning to try and help my insomnia. it is not working. I do notice the drug makes me feel drowsy, so I am considering taking it closer to bedtime actually, to see if I can sleep because maybe the effects are kicking in for me later in the day? Is it safe to change the timing of the dose like that suddenly, or does it need to be slower? I know this is a "question for the doctor" but just wondering if anyone else has done this. I just started at 50mg, 3 weeks ago. Started taking meds in afternoon, then moved them to first thing in the morning. Have the hardest time falling asleep and lately having more bad nights than good nights, trying different sleep aids with mixed results. I am considering taking my blood pressure meds early in the day, and swapping and taking zoloft before bed. anybody had luck with this? |

My research indicates to take the medication 4 hours before bedtime (you will probably be a little drowsy for those four hours, but it's important to stay awake until bedtime to prevent waking up in the middle of the night).
I hope this helps. |

Thanks, Helen!! Where did you find this out? I will definitely try this tonight and see if it helps.

My antidepressant is sedating too, so I take it about 3 hours before bedtime to help me sleep. I don't have insomnia though.
Could you ask a pharmacist? They might be able to advise. |

That's a good point too, I may call my pharmacy and see what they say today. It looks like it's safe to just try switching a dose time from what I can find from researching. I've been taking it in the morning, and I do notice I feel sorta tired and drugged up even after the nights I do actually sleep. I thought taking it in the morning would help the insomnia, but it doesn't seem to be working. Also, a couple of times I was able to take a nap a few hours after taking it (I did this the days after the nights I couldn't sleep) so maybe it does make me tired, and would actually be best taken before bed. I know everybody is different.
