I have been on high doses of depakote for years and I want off of it, I have gained so much weight from it and that does not help your self esteem at all, I am really drug sensitive and I am Bipolar 1 mixed, Would tegratol work as well as depakote for my moods and will it make me gain weight or help me lose weight, My doctor wont switch me, She doesnt care what my concerns are, And she said I was on it before but I dont believe it, I am on 3000 milligrams of depakote, I think that is alot, She also says I can take up to 6 milligrams of klonopin if I want but I dont, I only take 3 milligrams 3 times a day and I want off that some day also

It sounds to me like you might benefit from talking to a different pdoc.

3000 mg seems like a real lot of Depakote. Do you have your blood tested for liver function? You won't know if Tegretol will help you until your doctor prescribes it. What's her justification for refusing to try Tegretol? Disclaimer: I tried Tegretol and it felt like a neurotoxin. It's different for everyone.

I think she doesnt want to bother with trying some thing new, She keeps trying to put me on latuda and every time I tell her no, She doesnt listen to me, I do get my blood levels checked but some doctors have said I am taking to much of it, I tried nerontin before and I hated the way that drug made me feel

I agree with the thought that you need to shop for a new psychiatrist. Check some out/ask people about good psychiatrists and hang on to your poor one until you get a new one.

That might be, or it might not be. Latuda is very helpful for some people with bipolar depression.
