Hi guys, I am new here but I had to join as I really need an answer.
I began taking venlafaxine 75mg a few months back which kind of helped. The doctor upped my dosage to 150mg extended release. I was ok at first, but felt sick. Then a few days later I realised it was literally AS SOON AS I took the med (around half an hour later) I got really nauseous. I have actually been vomiting and had to have time off work (I work with food so if they know I've been throwing up I have to have 48 hours off). So then (I know this is stupid) I stopped taking it. For around five days. But my mood sunk so so low, I started taking it again today and half an hour after taking it I feel so so sick. I don't know what to do. Will this stop eventually if I carry on taking it? I can't function whilst feeling this sick, but I can't function without it! |

Hello Florence2016: I see this is your first post here on PC. I'm so sorry you are only now receiving a reply! (We're usually much better than this.) I really can't advise you with regard to your concern. I have been on Effexor twice now. And just let it be said that I cannot take it. My recommendation is to talk with your prescribing physician regarding your nausea. (Perhaps you've already done so?) I've never had this experience with any of the antidepressants I've taken.
Anyway... a belated welcome to PsychCentral to you… from the Skeezyks! I hope you find the time you spend here to be of benefit. PsychCentral is a great place to get information as well as support for mental health issues. There are many knowledgeable & caring members here. The more you post, & reply to other members’ posts, the more a part of the community you will become. Plus there are social groups you can join & chat rooms where you’ll be able to connect with other PC members in real time (once your first 5 posts have been reviewed & approved.) Lots of great stuff! So please keep posting! |

I will say, if you haven't tried taking it with food, that sometimes helps.
You really need to report this to your doctor. A decrease might be in order or a switch to something else. It sounds like a medical opinion is needed and no one can do that here. __________________ MDD with Psychotic Features, Dysthymia, GAD, Cluster C personality traits - Not taking any meds
