Trying to lose weight but having a hard time. I'm wondering if these meds my doctor claims are weight neutral really are. I take:

Geodon
Prozac
Lamictal XR
Xanax
Propranolol

Has anyone gained weight or had trouble losing weight on any of these meds?

For me, Geodon was weight neutral. Propanolol definitely is weight neutral, and I think Xanax is. Prozac and Lamictal, not weight neutral in my experience.

Geodon - Yes
Lamictal - Yes
Xanax - Yes
Prozac - Yes
Propanolol - No experience

Now, remember that these are just from my personal experience, but yes, I have found these meds to be weight neutral.

I know I was taken off all my antidepressants at some point, and I lost weight. Some of them sort of keep weight the same. Does that also mean "neutral?" But I definitely wouldn't go off what you are on, if that's the case.

Maybe a pharmacist could tell you more than your doctor. Just a thought.

I'm currently on Lamictal and I haven't noticed anything. But I am also on a stimulant so maybe it cancels out?

I've been on every one of those meds besides Geodon (still on Lamictal). Never saw any weight gain. I also have a freakishly fast metabolism though so that's something to consider. Lamictal has had absolutely no side effects for me aside from it making me sleepy before bed. Everyone's body reacts differently to meds so no one can say for certain how you would react versus somebody else.

Prozac made me gain about 10 pounds while I was on it. And while I don't have experience with it, I've definitely heard of propranolol causing weight gain.
Thanks for this!

It is very easy for me to lose the weight I gained on Lithium Celexa and Zoloft with now being on just Lamictal Geodone and propalanol. I think I might gain weight on a higher dose of Geodone but I've lost almost 50 pounds and eat around 1200 calories or less even with those three meds. They are definitely weight neutral. Be careful of Buspsar though. My doctor denied that it was making me eat 800 calories per meal but when I went off it myself I started losing weight like crazy. I think he believes now every side effect I tell him I have.

I have no experience with Geodon, but I have taken the rest without any weight gain.

I have no experience with propranolol. Lamictal and Xanax for me are weight neutral. Prozac over 20 mg was not. I didn't gain, but no matter how hard I tried I could not lose weight on it.

I haven't gained with geodon, but prozac made me put on a ton of weight. I can't speak to the other ones.

Something to consider, though, is that even if a drug is generally considered weight neutral or not, a lot depends on your own chemistry. I take depakote which is notorious for weight gain and I've actually lost weight (without trying).

I can speak for the following based on my own experience....

Lamictal (although I was not on XR): Definitely weight neutral for me. I think I lost weight, actually.

Xanax- weight neutral for me

Propranolol- Also weight neutral

I was actively losing on zoloft and buspar, and stopped losing when I added lamictal. I didn't gain - my weight stayed the same - but I didn't lose. I recently tapered off lamictal and started losing again. Just my experience.
