I'm sorry you're going through this.

When I went off Effexor I wasn't so worried that it would kill me, I was more concerned that it wouldn't and I'd have to live through the horrific withdrawals. I remember reading about Paxil withdrawal and one person comparing it to spending the evening with Jack the Ripper knowing you'd be dead by the time it was over.

A lot of the reason a person gets so sick coming off these meds is because of the chance in brain chemistry caused by them. If you can afford it, go to a naturopath who specializes in treating mental health issues as they should be able to give you some supplements to help regulate your brain chemistry so you don't experience all these symptoms.

If you aren't currently taking a good highly absorbable magnesium supplement, you should look into that right away. Your light sensitivity, tics and tremors are all symptoms of low levels. The thing you have to understand is that all these meds used to treat mood disorders, anxiety and the like block the body's ability to utilize magnesium not to mention depleting it in detoxing them from the liver so we develop all these crazy symptoms.

Good forms of magnesium include magnesium chloride, citrate and malate. DON'T use magnesium oxide as it's so poorly absorbed all it's going to do is give you raging diarrhea. You need to take calcium, vitamin D3 and K with the magnesium as the 4 nutrients work together.

Another thing you might look into is the book Break Your Prescribed Addiction by Billie Sahley that details how to come off these meds without going through what you're experiencing. I have the book--bought it after going off meds, and it's very good. I haven't tried her products, but I'm sure they're good, and if I was going through what you are, I'd try them.

I had my paxil reduced from 40mg to 20mg, and became suicidal.

My doctor increased it back to 40mg, and then i tapered it to 20 mg slowly at 10% every 3 weeks, and i am fine now.

The thing that is always difficult is to find a good supplement brand that really is what they say and there are so many. How long did it take u to start feeling that way and why did they reduce it CC.

I was buying some herbs for my dogs who had arthritis through Vitacost.com that are a private labeler so I just went with their amino acids. When I started seeing a nautropath I had to bring in all my supplements, and he had to admit that if they contained what they said, they were decent supplements. You want to make sure you aren't getting a lot of fillers.

I buy pharmaceutical grade supplements through Amazon.com for some other issues I have so check there too.

Liquid supplements are best as they're the most absorbable. After that are capsules as the dissolve easily and then comes caplets and tablets.

If you can afford that book I linked to, I'd urge you to get it and read it. Paxil is one of the hardest drugs to get off of as it causes such horrific withdrawals you as discovered. When I was in withdrawal, I researched it as much as possible hoping to figure out how to help myself and read stories about how people literally can't get off antidepressants as they become so sick when tapering. I think your only hope is to give your brain the nutrients it needs to combat the withdrawals.

Here's an article about how to get off antidepressants:

Thanks for that article. I'm not depressed myself, but my partner is going through severe difficulty getting off anti-depressants and she found that real helpful
Thanks for this!
