I recently upped my dose of prozac to 80mg . Although at the lower dose I felt relief in many areas I still struggled with pervasive suspiciousness worry and some obsessive thinking.
Has anyone here taken Prozac who had some suspicious thinking and paranoia and found it helped in these areas... I really don't want to go on antipsychotics again as they cause weight so much weight gain and my self esteem is what I need to work on

I would talk to your Dr. I'm sure there is another med out there that can help that will not cause weight gain. |

My twin sister is schizophrenic. She experiences paranoia and delusions. Her doc said these's no way for her to be on any drugs other than antipsychotics. so I guess that means SSRIs won't help.

hi. I have some similar problems as part of what is currently diagnosed as Bipolar I, on the more severe end of that category.
If you're having serious problems such as you're describing, you may very well need something more than an antidepressant. In fact, antidepressants can sometimes cause or worsen the sort of problems you're describing (individual results will vary, of course). do you have health coverage? Some of the newer "atypical" antipsychotics--saphris, latuda, rexulti--don't cause the same level of weight gain as seroquel, zyprexa, clozapine. Geodon is now generic and it is usually weight-neutral. Not everybody with symptoms like that ends up on an antipsychotic. Some people with a psychotic component to Bipolar I can take depakote or lithium and skip the antipsychotic most of the time. It really depends. Some people with psychotic disorders take antidepressants, no problem. Others take mood stabilizers with the antipsychotic. Doctors usually don't prescribe stimulants to those with a label of 'Schizophrenia', but even that isn't necessarily set in stone. Hope this helps. |
