How much klonopin is safe? I am allowed to take 3 0.5mg pills as a prn and then I take 1mg at bedtime. I took two 0.5mg pills today and was pretty loopy. My T was worried about me driving. The buzz wore off while I was in her office though so now I am kind of craving that high again. I am thinking of taking that last 0.5mg pill soon before I see my pdoc. I don't want to be as loopy as I was with my T but I would like to take the edge off.
I am a little worried about getting addicted to it. I have heard withdraw sucks. |

I personally would want an alternative like Buspar, or another non benzo.

Definitely talk to your doc about it. I'm worried about your possible addiction, too. Maybe your doc needs to adjust your meds.
![]() I weaned off Klonopin over a series of months and now take a low dose of Xanax. |

Another thing you need to keep in mind is that driving while under the influence of meds that make you high is just as illegal as driving under the influence of alcohol and street drugs. And please realize that you're not only endangering your own life, but the lives of every single person who drives on the same road as you do. My husband is a firefighter/EMT and you can't believe how horrific some of these drunk driving accidents are!! Should you be involved in an accident and escape injury, you'll be arrested on the spot and taken to jail--my husband has seen this and told me about it. You don't want to destroy not only your life, but untold other lives....
As far as klonopin goes, it's one of the most dangerous drugs out there according to CCHR International, a mental health watchdog group. https://www.cchrint.org/2011/06/02/a...pill-klonopin/

Klonopin shouldn't be taken on a regular basis - more for panic attacks or crippling anxiety. My psychiatrist told me NOT to take it as a regular sleep aid. He said it can be too habit forming. Trazedone is a good sleep med that is not addictive and doesn't make you loopy or hung over.
Also, It's not a sure thing that you'd get a DUI for driving while on klonopin or any other benzo. It would have to be coupled with other factors, not simply that it's in your system. |

i told my NP over and over that i used to be a huge drug addict, plz dont prescribe me any controlled meds.
one day i went in there very agitated and upset, and suffering from a paranoid delusion. she brought up klonopin for the millionth time and i said yes. i left there and went to a pharmacy and got 90 pills of it. i knew immediately that it was bad. i took 5 of them right off the bat. i ended up telling my T what happened and what i did and he made me give him the bottle. klonopin is addictive and does get you high if you abuse it. like others have said benzo withdrawal is no joke!!! i would suggest tapering down right now to avoid withdrawals and any further abuse/addiction habits. its already a sign that you're seeking them to feel 'high'. do you have someone you can have hold your pills til you actually need one?

Benzos are usually only good for short term use. Doesn't matter if a drug addict or not they must be taken as prescribed. Drug addicts can take as prescribed. Everyone is different.

I am only taking the 1mg at night now. The klonopin isn't calming me like it used to. I wasn't even taking the max prescribed. May even stop to 1mg at night since it isn't helping with sleep anymore.

Insomnia is a symptom of magnesium deficiency. Try increasing your magnesium and see if that helps your sleep. Magnesium needs to be taken with calcium and vitamins D3 and K as the 4 nutrients work together. Take a highly absorbably form of magnesium such as magnesium chloride, citrate or malate. DON'T take the cheap magnesium sold just as 'magnesium' as it's magnesium oxide that is so poorly absorbed that all you're going to end up with is raging diarrhea.
Most people on meds are low in magnesium as meds block the body's ability to utilize it not to mention that it's depleted by the liver in detoxing from meds.
