Hello all,
I started Lexapro 2 weeks ago today and was wondering if what I've been experiencing is normal. I noticed a mood lift after only a few days of taking 5mg, and switched to 10mg after 7 days as directed. I'm by no means complaining about the improved mood, but it occasionally feels a little...excessive? I was just home alone watching tv when I suddenly was so happy I had to consciously keep myself from giggling out loud. I don't think I'm manic - I feel capable of getting things done and am very motivated, but it's nothing extreme or unrealistic. I'm also puzzled because my psych told me it takes 4-6 weeks to feel an improvement in mood. I know you all can't provide concrete answers, I'm just curious if this is a normal reaction and if others have had this experience. |

Yes, I have experienced the same with ssri's. After only a few days on the ssri (including Lexapro) I would feel a sense of being elated. In my experience, that feeling levels off. I wouldn't worry about it...you've paid your dues with depression; it doesn't hurt to experience some elation.

Hi,
Sorry for lifting up an older post, but maybe this is going to be helpful. I started taking Lexapro for the first time in my life this week. Today I had my 5th dose of the 5mg and in a couple of days I will start taking 10mg as prescribed. I started feeling excessively happy after taking my 3rd dose I think. Yesterday I felt like giggling at completely inappropriate moments, in potentially stressful situations even. Oh, and I feel energy just flooding in, it is quite impressive. I have been taking Paxil in the past and it does not compare to what I am experiencing with Lexapro at all. |
