I finally finished getting off remeron and the taper sucked. I am certainly different now, no better or no worse except my sleeping.

I just can't seem to sleep much anymore. When I was on all my meds I could conk out at 10pm and wake 10-11am, now I can't sleep even with a supplement with melatonin, L-thearine, valarian root and a few others. I do sleep eventually like 2-3 hours later which is usually past 2, sometimes 3. I wake very easily, and once up, I am up until after midnight again.

One good thing is that I sleep so peaceful now, even if it is short, I haven't had that in so many years I can't remember how long it has been. It is a strange feeling, I am not sure what to make of it.

Has anyone else tapered off completely and had trouble with sleep? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi there,
So sorry to hear about the trouble sleeping - I have been there myself and still have some bad nights too. I ALWAYS take a LONG time to fall asleep, like you mentioned. Sometimes it takes me an hour, sometimes hours. I think you might be experiencing "rebound insomnia" which is what happens when someone goes off a medication or sleep aid that initially helps sleep - it's like the body is just re-adjusting to not have that chemical there helping it. I was trying those melatonin supplements like you mentioned and they don't do jack for me, so I understand that frustration! They might work again when you are farther out from the taper/change. It should continually keep improving, and it sounds like when you sleep, it is pleasant, which is a good thing! If you really need something, like an OTC, maybe unisom if you haven't already tried it? This occasionally helps me. I try not to take it more than once a week though. It is just an antihistamine like benedryl, it's safe and not habit forming, but supposedly our bodies can build tolerance to them rapidly so it's really only for once in a while. Maybe eventually the melatonin will work for you again! (it never works for me, LOL).
Hope you continue to feel better!
Thanks for this!

I found unisom with doxylamine succinate instead of Diphenhydramine because the latter gives me restless legs.

It still takes an hour or three to sleep but it seems to work better than the melatonin mix that I was trying. I found out the hard way last night that my brain hasn't settled down enough for melatonin.

I was on remeron for so long I had forgotten the suck that is insomnia.

I'm glad you found something that works! I too, really like the doxy version of unisom and it helps me a lot when I take it. Those melatonin herb mixes stopped working for me, too. Melatonin does nothing for me, LOL.

Hope you get much needed rest!
