I've tried a few SNRI's and had to go off them because they gave me chest pain. Now am on Prozac (an SSRI) and seems to be working but it's giving me violent thoughts. What's left anti-depressant wise? Other than Prozac, are there any other meds that help both depression and OCD?

Clomipramine (Anafranil) is a tricyclic antidepressant that is approved for treatment of OCD in my country.

If you're looking for an SSRI, Luvox.

Thank you both! Unfortunately have been on both those drugs too and they didn't help.

There is Luvox, Zoloft, Paxil... Annafranil and Effexor too. All approved for OCD in most countries.

If Prozac is working maybe your Dr will give you something else for the violent thoughts.

I just left my Dr. I let him decide what I was going to take...I gave him a list of my feelings...and ended up leaving with Abilify and Zoloft.

Last time I went...I was out of control with ANGER and he prescribed Risperdal...today I went in tears..and he said Abilify would work better than Risperdone for me...manages both problems I was having (anger/depression)

Celexa helped me also. But it was a too strong antidepressant for me, made me hypomanic.

There is a weird correlation between those helped by Prozac and those helped by Zoloft. Not always of course, but even if they are different chemically, they seem closely related. Also, start low if you can, sometimes side effects are from a too high dosage.

I learned that the hard way, I didn't know how sensitive I was and I got side effects for nothing.

Already on 7 meds between my psychiatrist and endocrinologist so really don't think adding one without going off something is a good idea.

I forgot about Celexa too. Thanks again jimi.
