Does anyone find improvement by supplement? My doctor's telling me to take vitamin D, multivitamin, and iron. She thinks my lack or imbalance can be contributing to my anxiety. I'm not sure if I should, as good supplements are even more expensive than prescriptions.

I think its definitely worth trying supplements.

The side effect profile is by far less.

Drugs may have long term negative consequences, but the same can't be said for most supplements. (ie vitamins and minerals....some "supplements" are more along the lines of herbals and can have side effects.)

You don't need top of the line supplements. Some store brand supplements are fine. And from what you mention, its not going to cost you an arm and a leg to get those three supplements.

Think of it this way.

If lack of vitamin D is adding to your anxiety, why would you want to take a prescription that only works on seratonin and/or norepinephrine?

You'd be taking the wrong things and likely wouldn't improve much.
Thanks for this!

Yea, I also wonder about this. Maybe we should just try what they say and see if it helps..it can't harm us!

I take lots of supplements, they do help me .

Vitamin D
Multi vitamin
Folic acid
Vitamin C
Calcium
Magnesium
Complex B's
Melatonin
Garlic oil
Fish and flax
Coral calcium
CQ 10

I notice a big difference if I run out.

Many good supplements are buy one get one, you don't need to invest and buy all kinds at once.

I started with Vitamin D and complex B 's

I take tons of supplements, mostly vitamins, because I'm into Orthomolecular. Its vitamins for severe mental problems, basically. Seems to help me.

You can get vitamins online for less $$$, usually. Vitacost, Puritan's Pride, Swanson's, etc. I'd start there, personally.

Magnesium can really help with anxiety, too. Supplements make sense because your body needs certain nutrients to make neurotransmitters like serotonin, etc.

Have you been tested and found to have an iron deficiency? If not, I'm surprised your T would suggest taking iron. Most people are deficient in vitamin D, so makes sense to take that.

I'd give it a try, see if it helps any. Amazon is also a good source for vitamins (and then you can see people's reviews of the brand/formula).
Thanks for this!

My Dr. checked, and she found vitamin D deficient and low iron (not deficient yet, but almost). I think you guys are right. I would try. It does not harm anyway.

I think one's health ought to come from real whole food. To fill in the gaps I take a very carefully selected batch of herbal products, vitamin/mineral supplements, and food-based supplements (e.g. krill oil, MCT oil, desiccated liver).

I would recommend not buying cheap brands, especially in some cases like fish oil. Most of the fish oil products sitting on store shelves are rancid and thus health destroying rather than health promoting. Cheap brands also tend to have more horrible additives and fillers, use toxic processes, and cheap ingredients. Better to take nothing than garbage.

ALso be careful with B vitamins. Can make a mess if taking wrong dose or wrong form.
