I experienced neck stiffness and jaw contractions after taking Abilify (2.5 mg) back in May 2014. I discontinued it after a month. However, I'm still suffering from the side effect and unable to go to work.

Hello Candlemind: I'm sorry you've had this experience. I'm afraid I would not be able to comment with regard to the connection here between the Abilify you took & your current symptoms. However I noticed this was your first post here on PC. So... to PsychCentral… from the Skeezyks! May the time you spend here be of benefit.

PsychCentral is a great place to get information as well as support for mental health issues. The more you post, & reply to other members’ posts, the more a part of the community you will become. Plus there are social groups you can join & chat rooms where you’ll be able to connect with other PC members in real time (once your first 5 posts have been reviewed & approved.) Lots of great stuff! So please keep posting!

hi. even low dose, short-term use of antipsychotics/tranquilizers/neuroleptics can sometimes result in lingering problems...even with the new "atypical" neuroleptics, such as Abilify.

I take a high dose of Abillify daily, for what is currently labeled "Bipolar I." I do Orthomolecular with mine, which is massive doses of vitamin c, e, b-complex, niacinamide, etc. The idea is that the vitamins correct brain chemistry, while the psychotropics suppress certain symptoms.

There's some research that suggests that vitamin combinations such as the one I take reduce the risk of tardive dyskinesia and related disorders. I certainly do tolerate the Abilify better now than I ever did before the vitamins, and my "symptoms" are much less severe.

There's a website...doctoryourself.com...that discusses all kinds of Orthomolecular treatment. The bulk of the information is free, and they have links to all kinds of other sites. Some people have found relief from tardive dyskinesia, tardive dystonia, etc. through the use of Orthomolecular, sometimes combined with carefully selected pharmaceuticals.

I wish you well. :-)
