I have never been addicted to z-meds but I had rebound insomnia stopping them. But I know some people who actually had withdrawals while stopping, mostly anxiety. But not as bad as benzo withdrawals. Still troublesome. So it seems like you can get addicted, but I don't know how common it is.

It's habit-forming, same as Ambien and other sleep meds. I'm on Lunesta now and while it supposedly helps I find I have bad sleep without it.
