I posted about 1 week ago about the situation in which Seroquel (for bipolar disorder) tends to make me highly drowsy, either in the morning if I take it too late (almost always the case) or when I take it early as in around 7 pm and am knocked out by 8.

My doctor suggested maybe Seroquel XR, which allows one to take it earlier and still function for some hours thereafter. Because I cannot afford any negative changes around this time of important exams coming up, we are opting for rather make a change afterwards.

We may consider other things too. thus far, I have tried:
-Risperdal
- Zyprexa
- Abilify
-Seroquel

Each having some success in leveling my mood- some more than others. A fair share of side effects as well.

Besides
Seroquel XR, which I know is an option, what else would you say is an option? I have googled, but thought I'd ask around too.

Latuda is also a good choice. It seems to be working well for me without any side effects. I take it with dinner (350 calorie requirement) and don't feel sedated. It helps as an antipsychotic as well as working for depression.
If you have insurance there is a savings card you can get on their website that brings down the copay. With that I only pay $15 instead of $65.

I've tried Latuda as well, but I find it very sedating. Not so great for mania, either, in my experience.

I think Seroquel xr is sedating at first, but the sedation went away within two weeks for me. Latuda sedation never went away. I was sleeping 12+ hrs a day, then felt groggy in the morning. That's basically why I quit taking it.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people find Latuda a bit sedating. Maybe not as much as me, but def sedating. Some people are fine with it and don't experience drowsiness, but IDK

what symptoms is the seroquel prescribed to cover? I do well on high dose (30mgs! every.single.day) of Abilify, plus some other drugs. I'm not big on sedating neuroleptics, especially seroquel, but that's me. Some people swear by it.

Keeping the xanax and flupentixol on board could reduce agitation and/or akathisia from a less sedating antipsychotic, such as abilify, geodon, rexulti, etc.

I hope you and your doctor can find a work-able solution.

In my experience, Seroquel is quite difficult to come off of and has to be titrated down, slowly. When I tried to come off it too fast I had severe insomnia.
