I'm switching back to Elavil from Clomipramine
which is too activating.

I'm hoping it will help my pain again as well.. and sleep
Anyone taken this? How did it work?

not elavil, but I did OK on Tofranil-PM and then old school Tofranil (the "PM" version is some updated version or something...I didn't notice a difference...).

I think Elavil is more sedating. There's a drug, Triavil, that mixes perphenazine (Trilafon) with Elavil. Perphenazine is one of the better tolerated older tranquilizers. There's also Limbitrol, which is librium and elavil, together at last.

Are you going to continue the seroquel? I mentioned the Triavil in part because I'd personally be a bit scared about taking a sedating TCA with seroquel. Not trying to scare you, but...wow. That's some dense sedation, anti-cholingeric effects, etc.

I hope the Elavil helps you. :-)

A neurologist specialized in sleep disorders prescribed a low dose of amitritpyline as a sleeping aid because I woke up multiple times a night. It worked a bit. Then my pdoc increased the dose to a dose where it would work as an antidepressant and I got severe side effects, so I had to quit.

During my last psychiatric ward stay I was prescribed Elavil (Amitriptyline). I forgot exactly why. If I had to guess, it was to help me sleep, which only worked the first time I took it, but then again they had given me Bendaryl too, because my neck/head was stuck in an awkward position, and I couldn't move it and was in pain. After leaving the psychiatric ward, I stopped taking it because it caused a lot of weight gain.
My half-sister got prescribed Elavil for pain, and if I'm correct, she said it helped her.
Hope it works well for you.
