I've been on 300mg Wellbutrin XL for about 6 weeks now and I've noticed that I've started having mouth spasms??? Sometimes I'll be talking and my mouth spasms and my words don't come out right (it's just like a sudden spasm, nothing prolonged or anything). It happens probably about 5-10 times a day depending on how much I'm talking, and sometimes when I'm just sitting there it'll happen. It's like my tongue just wants to move around really quick for half a second and then it stops. Has anyone ever experienced this? Do you think I'm at a higher risk for experiencing a seizure (a rare ish side effect)

Hey there! I actually got seizures on 300mg XL and I had to go to the ER. But I didn't have mouth spasms before they happened. I would definitely talk to your doctor and let them know you're having these mouth spasms. I haven't heard of that as a side effect but it certainly can be. I hope you're able to talk to your doctor soon. Good luck!

I'm going to my doctor next week so I'll let her know! I've tried searching it to see if anyone else has had it but I've found barely anything but it's weird that I only noticed it once I started this medication. Maybe I just didn't notice it before since I've been thinking about the possible seizure??? But I really don't think I could miss something like this.

What you've described doesn't sound like seizure, it sounds like an extrapyramidial effect.

I've gotten that from another unrelated medication and it got worse so i had to stop. i totally wouldn't associate that with a seizure, but i'm just a random person here. I dont' want to minimize it though-the word finding doesn't sound good if it's cognitive rather than physical/mouth movement. i've never heard of word finding symptoms with Wellbutrin before.

Stimulants often cause those tongue roll symptoms, related are 'tics'. Like stimulants, Wellbutrin works somehow on dopamine pathways. Look up that effect as associated stimulants (eg adderall) and you'll probably find your answer.

I don't think it's a seizure at all!! I've been searching things and it sounds similar to dystonia, which can either come naturally or be caused by stimulating drugs and can progress to the point where it's hard to talk at all. I'll ask my doc about it and see what she says, maybe she'll take me off of it or reduce my dose or something I'm not sure. But I don't think this is a cognitive reaction at all, it's definitely physical.
