Hey all. I started Lamictal over a month ago and I just doubled the dosage. I use it for my depression because I've had poor luck with antidepressants (the side effects were too strong or they just didn't work). I know it's supposed to be a mood stabilizer, but I'm quite sensitive to medication and I noticed that, after I doubled the dosage, I've been having mood swings. One minute I'm happy, then the next day I'm crying all day, then I'm angry, then I'm happy again. It's like a cycle. I'm hoping this means that my moods are cycling before it gets more stable.

Has anyone else had mood swings when they were starting Lamictal?

Thanks for your help.

Yes, I did. My psychiatrist told me to stay on 25mg for a month, and then double it to 50mg. It was about a month when I last saw him about 2-3 weeks ago, but I just doubled it last week. He said that he usually doubles the dosage after 2 weeks but, like I stated previously, I'm very sensitive to medication. So he said we'll take it slow and if I don't have any side effects, we can go the next step and double it. Then we'll increase it by 25mg. I'm currently just on 50mg but mediation affects me differently than others. Idk why, I'm just very sensitive.

I'm on 300mg due to the birth control pill. Maybe it's wrong for you.

I am on 200 mg. Lamictal is a mood stabilizer and should not be causing mood swings. You may need a different medicine.
Thanks for this!

-sighs- Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate the help! I was really hoping this would have helped me because most antidepressants have been failures. I figured something was up since I know it should be stabilizing my moods instead of making them go all over the place. I'll give it some more time and, if things don't change, I'll change it.
