I take risperidone and lithium. One of the main complaints with my state of mind ever since I've been taking the meds, is that I can't really emotionally react to music anymore. I'm not sure if its meds or my condition, but have you ever felt from taking any med, that you couldn't emotionally process music? If so, what meds were you taking?

I remember having the same problem when I was on Prozac for a while, I didn't like most of the music I used to as much or really enjoy music in general. Right now with Nardil I've actually been enjoying music more, which I'm guessing might have something to do with increased dopamine.
Do your meds seem to numb you or make you less emotional in other ways, or is it only with music? |

Yeah, it is reported that lithium interferes with various matters of how one feels. Reaction to sad things, music, movies... I personally find that I don't cry. I have not been able to properly cry (even in situations I would have cried in before) I do feel the emotion, just don't release it like I used to... at the odd funeral, sad movies etc.

Yes, they definitely numb me all across the board. I do experience frustration and an occasional inkling of sadness, but my meds (possibly lithium alone) have me very cool. I am switching to lamictal. Does anyone have any experience with that being less bothersome in this regard?

My music enjoyment problem really bothers me. It is possible that it's negative symptoms, and not the meds, but I don't know.

It's not just music for me. It's writing and any kind of artistic endeavor. I am also unable to listen to audiobooks. Very frustrating.
