For anxiety currently I take 3 10 mg Inderal and 3 0.5 mg Xanax a day along with other meds for other issues. It's beginning to seem excessive to me but I do seem nervous and agitated when I don't take them. I was very agitated at my last pdoc appointment so she was considering upping my Xanax to 1 mg but didn't because I was only consistently taking 2 Xanax then even though my prescription was written for 3. I also take an anti-depressant, a mood stabilizer, and an anti-psychotic, I feel like they should be helping my anxiety and agitation but they are not at least not as much as they should be. Does anyone else take anxiety meds 6 times a day?

Xanax is not a antipsychotic drug it's used to block or deaden the nervous system it does not do the works that help level out the brains natural chemicals to be normal that is why you still are nervous and atigiated you will have a very hard time doing this naturally and if not taken correctly your antipyschotic meds cannot work correctly the brain stops doing this on it's own. You can not wean yourself off this if not correctly used. If you continue to take more then needed you will permently damage the brain from ever working correctly with out meds for life

I kind of do. In the past I took propranolol for anxiety but now I take it twice a day for hand tremors but still get the anxiety benefits. I also can take 4 klonopin a day if I need too.
Thanks for this!

sorry things are rough. have you ever taken xanax xr, or talked to your doctor about it? I've never taken it, but I think 1 pill is supposed to provide more or less all day coverage. I hope you can find relief.

Dean, I'm aware its not an anti-psychotic. Actually just a weeks ago my doctor downed my anti-psychotic and seem to be doing a little better, it seemed to be having a reverse effect. I'm aware Xanax is addictive but I don't feel I have any other choice. I've tried Buspar but it was no help. All drugs have some potential side effects, Xanax is not currently giving me any.

Thanks still. I've never taken the XR, no. I will ask her next time.

Careful! Xanax is a benzodiazipine, in the same same family of drugs as Valium, Klonopin, Atavan...I too suffer from anxiety & depression. At first the Xanax was extremely effective; I felt relaxed, calm, even energized. It seeming like a wonder drug. After a couple of years, however, I gradually built up a tolerance to them that got completely out of control. I ended up taking them by the handful several times a day, at the highest dose available, 2mg. My psychiatrist didn't prescribe that amount. I was supplementing my scrip by buying them on the black market. And now they no longer work. I can swallow 10 Xanax at 2 mg each, and they have no effect whatsoever!

I'm aware of the dangers but like I said to Dean I don't feel I have any other choice.
